Libia M. González López
Training and professional experience
Born in San Juan de Puerto Rico, she attended undergraduate and graduate studies at University of Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras, in the field of History of Latin America and Puerto Rico. She obtained her Advanced Studies Diploma (DEA) in Foreign Studies (1992) and took her PhD in History at University of Paris I-Sorbonne (2000).
She was the Head Teacher of the Department of Humanities at the Facultad de Estudios Generales of the Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras (2004-2006). She was also the Studies Director of the seminars on History and Image and History and Heritage at the Centre for Advanced Studies on Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. She is currently an Associate Professor at the Facultad de Estudios Generales of the Universidad de Puerto Rico. She created and lectured at the doctoral seminars in Historiography, History and Image and History and Heritage at the Centre for Advanced Studies on Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
As a professor and research scientist, she is the author of numerous scientific articles, monographs and book chapters published in both national and international works. She has been an invited lecturer at institutions in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, USA and Europe, and has participated in a number of international congresses.
Research experience
She has a long career as a researcher into Social and Cultural History. She is interested in the historiographyc works on Puerto Rico, USA and Spain in relation to the Hispanic Caribbean in the XIX and XX centuries. She works on the relationship between memory, history and representation in the intellectual production with regard to Puerto Rico.
